Slow Death Games Partner with Corehammer in UK

Yesterday it was officially announced that Slow Death Games is now available exclusively in Europe through Corehammer . Slow Death Games make the game of subcultural warfare, Wild in the Streets . Chris is a good friend, and as many of you know, allowed me the honor of creating the WitS game supplement, Tooth Chipper Fanzine . It should be no surprise to know that Tooth Chipper Fanzine #1 is available in the Corehammer webstore right now. For those of you unfamiliar with Corehammer , Corehammer is a blog run by a crew of folks in the UK who came up on a mix of punk, metal, gaming, and nerd culture, much like myself. A couple of months back I contributed to their Cyberpunk themed week with this nostalgia piece on my first true wargaming love, Necromunda . If any of that sounds interesting to you - click on some links. -Nick nick@breakerpressgames.com
Breaker Childern - Art by Filip Dudek The Children of FerrumSky  Childbirth is strictly manipulated by the corporations. A spike in births can devastate the supplies on the colony ships or within the colonies themselves, or at least that is the statement continuously fed to the Tracted. Those who wish to bring new life into the world have two options. One is to increase their workload in order to pay for the additional resources needed to provide even the most basic provisions to the child. The other is to enter the Gen-Mod program. The child will be given up to the orphanages at birth, but a couple can bring new life into the world at limited expense to themselves. The children raised by their families are put to work as soon as they are able to lift or carry objects. During feeding times the children bring buckets of food and water to the work sites, and more children carry the buckets of waste away. When a child is old enough to swing a pick or sift rocks, they will often be...

In City Industrial Shipping Container Review

At AdeptiCon I picked up a bunch of MDF kits from Death Ray Designs . One of the items they didn't have on hand by the time I got to their booth was the In City Industrial Shipping Container , so I ordered some when I got home from the big event. As you can see in big bold words in the pic above, this is the Shipping Container 4-Pack . Now these have been out for a while. I knew I had seen these originally on Ash Barker's Guerrilla Miniature Games Youtube channel, and I didn't realize the video dated back to April 2016 until just now. Still, I linked it because you can see a bunch of other stuff from their In City range. The cleaner look is pretty Infinity , but heavily weather any of those kits, and you can insert them into Broken Contract . One of the things that jumped out at me as I started assembling these Shipping Containers is that they are roughly the same size as the wall sections I build for the FerrumSky Mines . My usual wall sections are 2" wid...

Three New Releases for April 2018

At AdeptiCon we debuted three new releases and they are available on the Breaker Press webstore now! Broken Contract The Day-to-Day Starter Box This Starter Box is a revised and reimagined version of last year's starter box. The box we brought out to the world through Kickstarter last year contained a lot of stuff, but in retrospect may have been a touch overwhelming to new players. The focus then was on creating a sandbox for players who wanted to create their own characters and crews, but it was too much stuff to make a smooth introduction. The Day-to-Day Starter Box seeks to resolve that by adding our Introductory Episode Book, The Day-to-Day and keeping the cards and models strictly to those on the sample crew rosters included in the book. The three scenarios are meant to guide the players through progressively more involved Acts, composing a mini-campaign called an Episode.  The Day-to-Day Starter Box is the perfect introduction to the miniature game, ...

Rust Pointe Dumpster Review

I came back from AdeptiCon with a bunch of stuff. I acquired the vehicles for Wreck-Age that my partner and I backed on Kickstarter. I picked up a few Aetherium miniature sets to use for my own Broken Contract games set in the FerrumSky Mines, as well as for playtesting a future BC expansion. Finally, I came back with a bunch of scenery kits from Death Ray Designs . The first project I chose to dive into when I got home was the Rust Pointe Dumpster from Death Ray Designs . I bought three of them and I have them all in various stages of completion. I don't generally do reviews, but I was so impressed with this little kit, that I wanted to talk about it. As you can see in the photo above, it's just a rectangular dumpster, and a tiny kit at that. The immediate thing I want to note is that it comes with assembly instructions. A bunch of other MDF kits I own have no instructions, which was fine for the simpler ones. The last building I built though, had a bunch of succe...

Pre-Order: Adam Walker Multi-Part Model

Our first new model of 2017 is available for pre-order now . Adam Walker was developed around the specs and likeness of one of the Backers of our first successful Kickstarter, back in 2015. It's taken a long time to get this character from idea, to concept, to sculpting, and then finally, to production. I think he demonstrates a move forward in our evolution and I am really happy with the results. The Adam Walker model comes with three different heads to choose from, and two different sets of arms, giving you multiple possible builds, and increasing the utility of the model. In Broken Contract, two weapon options are the Arc Carbine and the Crowd Control Repeater. The Arc Carbine is a high powered taser rifle. It has a low rate of fire, but a high likelihood of dropping it's target in one shot, leaving the victim incapacitated and easy to put in Restraints. The Crowd Control Repeater is largely a weapon of suppression. It fires D3 rounds per Action, and is usually ...

New Act: Blowing Off Steam

This work day has really gone to #%$! (This is a great introductory scenario for learning the basic mechanics to the game. Check it out. -Nick) Act: Blowing Off Steam Staggering work quotas and bitter rivalries create tension. It can be felt on the work sites, at feeding times, and even in the barracks. Folks can find it hard to get along even when things are going well. Under the punishing stress of the FerrumSky Mines tempers flare regularly. Crew Goals: Inflict more Wounding Hits on your opponent’s Crew than they do on yours. Try not to let your enemies become Critical or Dead. Points: All players should agree to an equal point total and draw that many points off of their Crew Roster. A game with two 50 point Crews should take 45-60 min if neither side Sounds the Alarm to end the game prematurely. This Act may be played with more than two Crews, but it is recommended that the players reduce their crew sizes to 25 or 30 points to complete the game in the above mentione...

Game Designer's Notebook: Drugs in the FerrumSky Mines

(Editor's Note: People have been asking about Drugs used in the FerrumSky Mines for a while. It just so happens that in February of 2016 I jotted down the names of six different drugs and possible game effects. A year and 1 month later, I've crafted explanations and tweaked the effects of what they do. Let me know what you think. -Nick) Common Drugs Found in the FerrumSky Mines Meeting the daily quotas set by the FerrumSky would be a difficult, if not impossible task, were it not for those willing to upset the delicate chemical balance within their own bodies. Work enhancing drugs are often used by the most fervent Loyalists, but even the average miner might find cause to extend their efficiency for the day for some goal outside themselves. Perhaps they have a child to care for, or a friend on their crew who is injured and they feel the need to compensate for. Of course there are those that just do drugs to dull the pain of their awful daily lives, or to step outside th...

FUNDED! Broken Contract Rulebook Kickstarter

On Thursday February 9th, the Broken Contract Rulebook Kickstarter successfully funded! I am ecstatic to have the funding to get all of the printed materials completed, and the goal is to have them all in time for AdeptiCon. Now that we've succeeded it's time to look at what else we can push towards. Something that has frequently been requested is more models. The first Stretch Goal is for a dual kit that makes Ash Walker, a Black Squadron Officer who feels more comfortable amongst those he polices, and a basic Black Squadron Security Gunner with an Arc Carbine - a high powered taser rifle with a short range, and low rate of fire, but the ability to stop a Breaker in their tracks and quickly Restrain them.  At the time of writing, we are only $400 away from this Stretch Goal and we have 9 days remaining. We can do this! Our Rulebook and Play Aids Pledge Level is the best way to get up and running playing Broken Contract, and of course there are a lot of...

The Broken Contract Rulebook Kickstarter

Hello friends! The Broken Contract Rulebook Kickstarter has been launched. The video above is one of the ones used on the Kickstarter page, but I'm going to give you the bullet points here: The 32 page Broken Contract Rulebook contains: An overview of how to play a miniature wargame, explaining moving, measuring, and making Stat Checks. A detailed list of Actions and Interruptions. This is really the core of Character interaction in the game. There are over 15 entries for different Actions and 10 entries for Interruptions, and many of these have sub-entries giving the players an incredible array of options within the game. This also means that Characters can really hone in on what they are good at. Rules for Critical Successes and Failures based on a special set of dice that are used after a 1 or 6 is rolled for a Stat Check. These dice, combined with a chart, are used to help create the action movie moments where your Characters do both the exceptional and the trag...

The time is finally upon us. The Broken Contract Rulebook Kickstarter is set to launch January 18. The focus of this Kickstarter will be the rulebook, board game tiles, and play aids. It's been a long journey to get to this point, and I hope you can all come along on the next leg of the trip! Share this far and wide. Thank you all for the continued support. -Nick

Breaker Press Games 2017

The year has come to a close, so it's time to think about what was accomplished in 2016 and look at goals for 2017. Looking back over the last year, things have moved slowly but have been consistently exciting. Breaker Faction Set. Q1 In January I approved all of the printing for the Broken Contract Miniature Faction Sets . It was thrilling since this was our first completed product. February and March was all packing and shipping those Kickstarter rewards and getting ready for AdeptiCon. In my notes, I had started mapping new rules, Ability Cards, and Factions. I was thinking ahead to completing the rulebook and FerrumSky Campaign book (more on those later). My vision of what Broken Contract can be in three dimensions! Q2 April saw the first notes and blog post on developing a campaign system for injuries. Looking back, it was actually the biggest blogging month of the year with five blog posts on various topics. It sort of demonstrates how invigorating going to ...

Broken Contract Faction Box Sale!

Black Squadron Faction Set Hello all! As we get closer to finishing up the Broken Contract Rulebook and jumping into FerrumSky Campaign Book next, I'd love to commission some new art. All packages will ship with whatever cool bonus stuff I have laying around, so you'll be receiving more than just the 15% savings. :) Thanks in advance! -Nick

Game Designers Notebook: Kickstarter Prep

Kickstarter build in progress. Building a Kickstarter is a complicated beast. In my time developing Broken Contract I've built several that I have never launched, and I have pulled the trigger on two. I learned a lot from both of those experiences, but there are so many variables at play that it is always hard to feel ready - even when you know you are more ready than you've ever been! With getting ready for the next Kickstarter I wanted to take some time to reflect on some of those lessons. Broken Contract - Deep Underground   Cancelled Kickstarter 09/2014 I can still remember how I felt going into that first Kickstarter. I had been working relentlessly on Broken Contract for a year. Most of that time was while I was on worker's compensation from an ACL tear on the job. I had a strong vision and what I thought at the time was a lot development put into art and sculpting. Most importantly, I had calculated what I needed to launch a boxed game and I had exhausted...
