November 5: New Breaker Miniature Range Kickstarter!

In less than a week we will be running our next Kickstarter. This one is to fund the manufacture and expansion of our Breaker range of miniatures. If you've been following Breaker Press for a while, you've probably seen images of some of these sculpts appear over the last year and a half (yes, the gears grind slowly at Breaker Press). It is finally time to send them to the caster, but we need your help. Female Breaker Gen-Mod. We are starting things off with the two Gen-Mods that we've been sitting on for quite some time. These will be the basis for the Kickstarter campaign. The campaign is going to start small - we just need to raise enough money to cast and ship these two models. Male Breaker Gen-Mod. If the campaign goes well, the Stretch Goals will be determined by you, the community. The first Survey went up and the first Stretch Goal will be for the female Breaker Crew Leader. Female Breaker Crew Leader. Hopefully, we can work our way through all...

In City Industrial Shipping Container Review

At AdeptiCon I picked up a bunch of MDF kits from Death Ray Designs . One of the items they didn't have on hand by the time I got to their booth was the In City Industrial Shipping Container , so I ordered some when I got home from the big event. As you can see in big bold words in the pic above, this is the Shipping Container 4-Pack . Now these have been out for a while. I knew I had seen these originally on Ash Barker's Guerrilla Miniature Games Youtube channel, and I didn't realize the video dated back to April 2016 until just now. Still, I linked it because you can see a bunch of other stuff from their In City range. The cleaner look is pretty Infinity , but heavily weather any of those kits, and you can insert them into Broken Contract . One of the things that jumped out at me as I started assembling these Shipping Containers is that they are roughly the same size as the wall sections I build for the FerrumSky Mines . My usual wall sections are 2" wid...

Three New Releases for April 2018

At AdeptiCon we debuted three new releases and they are available on the Breaker Press webstore now! Broken Contract The Day-to-Day Starter Box This Starter Box is a revised and reimagined version of last year's starter box. The box we brought out to the world through Kickstarter last year contained a lot of stuff, but in retrospect may have been a touch overwhelming to new players. The focus then was on creating a sandbox for players who wanted to create their own characters and crews, but it was too much stuff to make a smooth introduction. The Day-to-Day Starter Box seeks to resolve that by adding our Introductory Episode Book, The Day-to-Day and keeping the cards and models strictly to those on the sample crew rosters included in the book. The three scenarios are meant to guide the players through progressively more involved Acts, composing a mini-campaign called an Episode.  The Day-to-Day Starter Box is the perfect introduction to the miniature game, ...

New Breaker Leader Concept Art

Art by Filip Dudek We've been holding back on the next Kickstarter while we cache some new assets to work with, both in the way of sculpts and art. Money is most often the thing that slows down progress, but artist, sculptor, and even my own availability can all affect progress. While we've been accumulating those assets, Hal, Aaron, and I have had talks about what we want to be the focus of the next Kickstarter, and we came to the conclusion that filling out the range of the Breakers is a good starting point, and depending on how that goes, we'll do the same with Black Squadron, and the other factions that are present in the mines: the Knife Syndicate and FerrumSky Loyalists. Art by Filip Dudek How do we determine what is missing from the range? After careful consideration, we want the range for each Faction to include a multi-part male and female model for each of: Child, Teen, Adult, Leader, and Gen-Mod. Additionally, each range would benefit from about 5 easy ...

Rust Pointe Dumpster Review

I came back from AdeptiCon with a bunch of stuff. I acquired the vehicles for Wreck-Age that my partner and I backed on Kickstarter. I picked up a few Aetherium miniature sets to use for my own Broken Contract games set in the FerrumSky Mines, as well as for playtesting a future BC expansion. Finally, I came back with a bunch of scenery kits from Death Ray Designs . The first project I chose to dive into when I got home was the Rust Pointe Dumpster from Death Ray Designs . I bought three of them and I have them all in various stages of completion. I don't generally do reviews, but I was so impressed with this little kit, that I wanted to talk about it. As you can see in the photo above, it's just a rectangular dumpster, and a tiny kit at that. The immediate thing I want to note is that it comes with assembly instructions. A bunch of other MDF kits I own have no instructions, which was fine for the simpler ones. The last building I built though, had a bunch of succe...

Building a Punk Venue for WitS Pt. 1

Chris from Slow Death Games/Wild in the Streets isn't going to be able to make it to AdeptiCon this year so the Breaker Press Games booth is going to be running Wild in the Streets demos in addition to our yearly introduction to Broken Contract . This means that I'm going to need suitable scenery to use for demo purposes, as well as for photos used in Tooth Chipper Fanzine . With that in mind, I looked around the internet in search of buildings that fit my vision of the hip neighborhoods I've frequented around the country as my old bands toured. Everywhere I looked, the modern buildings I was most drawn to were all from the TT Combat City Scenics line. I looked at their entire range, and even though their old theatre, comic book store, and music shop all seemed like automatic selections, I needed to get the most bang and flexibility for my buck, so I ordered their Take Away set online, which is meant to be a stripmall with 3 restaurants in it. Eagerly, I waited f...

The Knife Syndicate

If you've been following Broken Contract on social media, you may have seen mention of my Knife Syndicate crew. You may have wondered what that is all about since we've only ever really talked about Breakers and Black Squadron. The FerrumSky Campaign Book is going to introduce two new Factions, the Knife Syndicate and FerrumSky Loyalists. Today we're going to talk about the Knife Syndicate. The Criminal Underbelly of the FerrumSky Mines Take away people's right to choose how they will live their lives, and they will rebel. Not every rebellion is in the form of work stoppage and open fighting with management and their hired goons. Instead, the most common form of rebellion happens during the day-to-day grind through general rule-breaking. Workers smuggle rations back to their barracks and sell them to their co-workers. There are those who hide anything with natural sugar to slowly ferment in the dark, tucked behind rocks or under storage containers. There is a thri...

Vision of Fire: Broken Contract Battle Report

"Sledge", a Recognition Drone, and Officer Kase Cohin on the hunt for several errant miners. (The following is a narrative battle report documenting a new Act called, Visual Recognition. In this Act, Black Squadron Security team up with two Recognition Drones who have the objective of capturing images of breaking miners to confirm their identities. The role of the drones is to not engage the enemy. They are there to provide visual documentation for the files of the transgressors. It was a really fun mission to play and then put into words. The Black Squadron were played by Hal, and the Knife Syndicate were played by myself. Enjoy! -Nick) "Work Site CI08 reporting. That new guard jacked up the count. He's not sure how many slipped away while we were dealing with those other worthless breakers, but we're short several bodies." "Understood. Don't sound the alarm just yet. We're sending over a Recognition Team, and a squad is moving from h...
